Is it better to promote your blog, which ultimately you want to promote your business, or to promote the business itself?  Anyone ever had this dilemma?

I would say it's a good idea to do both at the same time.

My blog gets way better page rank than my site because I am using a one page landing page for my opt ins. The sites convert really well so I would not consider making my own. But they still get lousy page rank.

So an easy solution for me is to create another site or blog and link into the high converting landing pages. For me, the blog got really good SE exposure quickly.

But I guess if you have a well put together high ranking, high converting site than just promote that one. It really depends on so many different variables. And the amount of time and resources you have.

Thanks Bill.  I tend to agree that promoting both is the best thing.  There are different techniques to promoting both.

I look at my blog as a landing page, so I promote my blog instead of my business. Your blog is like your list. People keep coming back if you feed them great content. they begin to trust you with every post. then they will buy from you once you establish the trust factor.

I also build my list from my blog as well. I offer a free bi-weekly newsletter for the mlm industry called "mastering the Game" and at the same time email updates as well.

I totally agree, the trust factor is very imporant for bloggers, especially business oriented.
After all people are supposed o trust you with their money, or thats what you (we) want.

I try to give only true reviews on my blog. I've tested many programs and products,
and I try to inform people about the little tricks you can do with them, explain about the program
and give my opinion on how it works.
So far I've been getting only good reviews about it, so I think I'm going the right way

I look at my blog as a way to promote myself and my business. It is a way to brand me and to let others know who I am and why they should consider partnering with me.

Blog is like owning my own newsletter or even a news magazine! With this in mind, blogging is perfect for providing value to your readers on a very specific topic like:

"How to make money online with social media sites like twitter, facebook etc."

If You give enough quality information on the specific topic, people will start to like you and be more interested to do business with you.

And since search engines absolutely love blogs, here's where you
can sell your own products by teaching and providing value to other people.

Always remember, "teaching sells"

Cheers!

This is just my opinion and the way that I do it, but I don't ever promote my "business" up front.

I do often times promote my product upfront.  I also promote my blog as a source of information about how I promote my product and how I run my business.  However, the key is to show your prospect how you can help them succeed, without actually trying to recruit them upfront.

I think that especially on forums such as this one, people are looking for information about how to run their own businesses and your "opportunity" just looks the same as everyone else's.

I believe that in order to stand out and recruit distributors you need to show them how YOU can help them succeed.  You do this by showing them the value in joining you.  If you can give away free advice and help through the use of a blog, for example, then they can see that you know what you are talking about.  This builds trust.  As we all know, trust is key.

Just my two cents.  :)

Cheers,
Tim

Tim,

I agree with you, starting with your product is the way to go. And before that, you really need to promote yourself as a trustworthy expert to your target market.

Your blog is a great place for staying in touch with your audience. You will also get some new prospects, but it does not perform nearly as well as a simple opt-in page. I am getting about 10% of my new prospects from my blog, and 90% from simple landing pages.

Promoting in blogs gives you temporary traffic to your website until your website gets the better page rank. One can promote their business in an article form by giving back links to the original site.

I would promote 2, but it also makes sense to promote your blog more because if there is an increase in traffic to your blog, that would mean that people like what you have and you can sell your business through your blog. People trust you enough to keep coming back to read your blog, so naturally, anything you promote through blogging sells. Unless you have your business at your blog, which is like, killing 2 birds with one stone, like what I'm doing now.

Interesting question. I see it more
effective to promote the solution
your via your blog that your product
and/or business solves.

With focusing on the problem and
offering the solution... In the end
the business, product and your blog
will be marketed. Not only that,
you'll become know for the solution
you solve.

Won't Be Denied,
CF-

I think it depends on where you are promoting.  If you are promoting somewhere that is relevant to your blog, promote your blog... If you are promoting somewhere that is relevant to your website, promote your website.

It's not about short term gains... it's about long term success.  If you promote things where they seem to fit, it won't be awkward for your reader when they visit your link.

It's also about promoting your website and blog between each other....

You should also promote your product on your blog...  On our blog, we have our product (a free ebook) on our blog on the right hand side on the top where everyone can see it.  We also have a link to our website at on the top navigation bar...  On our website, we have a link to our blog on the top left hand side in the sidebar and our product on our homepage.

I think it's better to BRAND YOURSELF, so I say promote your blog. MLM's are about building relationships, anyway. I'm sure many of us has had the recruit we could never get in contact with, or the recruit that still by some measure didn't understand what to do with their business. Your blog exemplifies leadership to some degree, in showing them what they can do to build their business. Above all,if there's something you do, or something else that you have to promote, you can do it all from one place. Have your own blog or website is like having your own central station, where you can share whatever "your message" is universally. Stick to whatever your priorities are, though. If it's to offer whatever your current business / product is, then make sure you don't stray away from the agenda. In the least, even if you do talk about a wide array of topics, you can always promote your business opportunity in highly visible pages on your web page.

Yes, I agree with Tim and Dj,  using your blog to brand yourself and build relationships with people is the best idea!

Allow people to get to know you, because if they join your business, they will be working with YOU a lot more than they are working with the actual "opportunity".  That's the way it should be anyway.

What would you prefer - to read about someone's opportunity or to read about how someone can help you do what you want to do?

In my opinion there are different types of customer too - those that are looking to buy a product right now and those that are interested in the field but still shopping about and finding out more.  They may not be sure which product or service they need; they may still be establishing if they have any need for it at all.

Some people don't want to read a blog or have a long term relationship with your site, others may come specifically because the content is cool.

As with most things, you need to be all things to all people so promotion of both is best.

As long as your blog provides resources to your target audience, it can be a very effective landing page for your business, and will automatically generate long term relationships.
