I've used blogger and typepad for awhile now, and get quite a bit of traffic on several of my blogs. The blogger blogs seem to get indexed quicker than the typepad ones. I do think that I can do more personalizing with my typepad blogs - easily that is - than with my blogger ones. I tried to start a wordpress blog and hit the wall hard with some major 'duh' moments, so I'm sticking with what I have. Typepad has tons of widgets, so I'm not missing out on that area.

I've published some Squidoo lens, but have found them to be a little more time consuming to create and update, just me I'm sure. They are fun to create though, and I do get some traffic.

Hope that helps :) Best of luck

You're quite welcome Gordon. Good luck with  your blog!

Hi Vern,

Good to see you too! As for the blog traffic, I just keep posting about a variety of different things as you can probably tell from reading my blog. I actually do a lot of posts on things that will help other bloggers, like posts about blog resources, etc. Other than that there's no secret. But even 200 uniques a day doesn't have me happy. I want traffic in the 4 and 5 digit range. Hopefully I'll get there some day. If not I shall cry. :P

Shine on,
Aar:cool:n

Hi everyone,

I'm new to blogging...and this may seem like a dumb question...but how do you add bloggers link or banner add to my site?

Can someone lead me by the hand?  I'm not at all technical!

Thanks for any help!

Best,
SM

Hi, Karen!

First off, CONGRATZZZZZZ for deciding to start your own blog!  That's one of the most SEO efficient ways to get your name out there for branding, list building and building whatever biz you're promoting...

I've been a blogger since August, 2004 and highly recommend the new Google/Blogger-hosted blogs for new bloggers.   It now offers categorisation once your blog is hosted on blogger as against you hosting it on your own domain... that's great for SEO and social bookmarking.

Try blogger.  If you haven't already set one up!  ;-)

Angela.

I just started using blogger, and it does make the most sense to use this one, especially if you like using Adsense. Also very easy to use with its Click & Drag editing. You really have got to enjoy writing though

More thoughts on Squidoo folks.

If you put a link on your Squidoo Lens to your blog and a link on your blog to your Squidoo Lens, you can start a system of back links.

I also posted links to my blogs and Squidoo Lens to:

http://www.directmatches.com

http://www.adlandpro.com

http://www.linkedin.com

http://www.facebook.com

http://www.myspace.com

It is important to post original content to your blogs and Squidoo lens frequently.  I usually do it every day.  I also post links on my blogs and Squidoo Lens to my articles at http://www.isnare.com when they are published.

I should be so fortunate to get 200 hits a day to my blog (LOL!) Yet I do get my articles on the first page of Google and get sign ups from them.

Vern: let me know how you make out with Squidoo

Jon :)

Here's a question that was posed to me recently....with my answer.... which I think everyone here can benefit from.
I see many blogs hosted at blogspot.com like yourdomain.blogspot.com instead of having it hosted at your own hosting. I also see so many famous bloggers still just host their blogs at their blogspot or typepad hosting and never seem to have their own domains.

Does that work better for SEO reasons? I'm sure those blogs, including your blog which is not hosted on your own server point links back to other websites you own. But would it be better to run a blog on a blogspot hosting or whoever is not your own and to point links to other websites you own elsewhere than create a directory within your domain?

Or did you just leave it at blogspot because you hadn't owned your domain when you launched it?

I am trying to find a reason why people continue to host their blogs at blogspot or typepad or whatever and stay as their subdomain instead of buying own domain to host it at their own hosting. My guess was maybe for SEO reason, maybe it's good to leave it hosted at the blogspot and point links to your other websites?

And here's my answer................

To answer your question about why I host my blog http://Best-MLM-Resources.blogspot.com at blogspot instead of my own domain....here's a few off the cuff comments.

- First....for everyone it's a personal choice often based more on convenience, ease, website development expertise, time management, comfort zone, etc. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to take advantage of this avenue. Keeping it simple is OK.

Since I offer others advise, tips, ideas, etc daily on lots of areas of network marketing (not just blogs...and not just on my blog).... I always choose and use the simplest example.

Folks relate better to that than some rocket science approach. It's the best starting point...everyone can do it...and everyone can grow from there at the pace best for them.

I do go over the "more advanced" ideas etc. but always use the simplest as the foundation an education and decison are built from. If I tried starting everyone at a higher level many would be lost right from the get go. This way....they can begin at the best level for them whatever that is. For blogs....it's something like Blogger.

- Using your own domain and building a directory has it's advantages. If that's what one prefers...go for it. But is your purpose to get high visibility for your blog website? Your main domain site? Or what?

The main advantage of the blog in my opinion is the links IN the blog. Not the Blog itself. Not just the "menu" links either. The blog itself will be indexed. Each individual article will be indexed also...with the links it has embedded in it. I embedded targeted key word links as well as domain name links in my articles. This creates a link strategy with those sites, raises SE spider visibilty (spidered when you ping directories like Technorati), raises PR via link relevancy, lists articles in SEs by targeted keywords or phrases, and so on. The domain doesn't make that big a difference to all this IMHO really.

Case in point....look at http://Broadband-Nation.blogspot.com [not MLM related....my consulting business] Look through the archives. Google some keyword phrases covering article titles. Do the same for Yahoo. You'll find these articles listed pretty high...most have links embedded to my Telecom consulting services...all have the main page menu and links also readily visible on the article page. That's visibility with a targeted market viewing it. I get lots of sales from folks visiting the articles listed in the search engines....more so than folks just happenstance going directly to the blog itself.

And....none of it is hurt in anyway by being a Blogger site and not my own domain.

God Bless,
Michael

I was told by an internet marketing expert that search engines LOVE blogs...so you really don't have to list them with every search engine.

Do you guys agree?

Has anyone ever used blogging to help launch a product?  I'm going to be starting a blog about a new VideoLive product of my client's.

Best,
Sonja

Search Engines love blogs because the content are update daily. That is provided you do at least a post a day. In order to achieve a high level of sales, your blog must have high traffic. That is provided that your blog is already established and you have a high number of loyal readers which find your blog interesting.

Julieanne,

Hello, I just recently built two blogs with blogspot, and I must say it is wonderful what 10 minutes will do with them.  I have no problems and I control what advertising Google puts on.  I have an Adsense account and my pages look wonderful.  I also have advertising on their from google, commission junction and many others!  I also advertise my other websites as well.  Just an FYI in regards to what these offer.

Hi, I like the Wordpress platform the best; it is flexible and considered the standard when it comes to blogs.  I used an excellent system called Web 2.0 Wealth.  Go to my site below and see a description on it half way down.  It's tutorial based and I highly recommend it.

Good luck!  ;)

Hi Vern,

I have enjoyed reading about this topic.  Can you please tell me what Skype and Wordpress are?

Skype is simply a (voice over IP) communications service that is free. You download to your computer and talk all over the world with your headset.  Wordpress is a blog platform whereby you can create your own blog/site for free.

Happy Easter!
