Good tools so far. I also use (and recommend) Interactive flash movies, lead capture pages (a MUST) with autoresponder (another MUST), a business contact manager, traffic rotator, web conferencing, and voice mail broadcasting. If you're new you can use ad coops, sometimes with good results - but you'll save money just doing ppc on your own.
The important thing is to know your break even costs before you begin a campaign and do testing before you put a lot of money into anything, no matter what you use.

I doubt this will happen, but it never huts to ask. I know there are many ways to get traffic to your site, Article writing, search engines, ezine advertising, having your own mailing list, etc. I also know once a person finds out how to get this traffic they don't share the details very often. I am hoping there is at least one person that would post in detain how they get traffic, not just say I write articles to get traffic, but go into every detail of writing articles. I write articles, but I don't usually get more than 10 visits a day from my article writing. It doesn't have to be on article writing, but what ever you use go into detail exactly what you do. Probably the only person that would share this type of free information would be someone that has already made so much money, they are not worried about more people finding out, but I am hoping there is someone like that and they will reply to this post.

Here's one aspect of generating traffic to your site....posted on my blog April 13:
I've chatted many times with folks about internet marketing and they have all posed the same question to me:
"How do I get my page ranked in the Search Engine?"
The answer to this question is very involved, but allow me to give you a few hints to get you moving in the right direction:
1. When listing your site with search engines....pick keywords nobody else is targeting. There are millions of keyword combinations to choose from. You can use the new Google or Overture Keyword Suggestion Tools to find a great list of possibilities:

2. Make your website unlike anybody else. If you have a company replicated site, get your own and change it to the point where it is barely recognizable as a company site. Add you own articles, change colors, formats, etc. Also make sure you host it with a web hosting company that can offer you a UNIQUE IP ADDRESS. Don't ever share your IP address with any other site!
3. Create a mini-network of web sites that "vote" for each other (vote = SE link popularity...link the sites to each other). Then link your NETWORK of sites to others with their own networks (make sure the sites are similar in subject....in other words relevant. This increases your SE PR ranking. You don't link bee keeping sites with blackjack online for example). A network is 4 or more sites, which can be comprised of a personal site, a business site, a product site, and a blog.
4. Extend your domain name for 10 years. The $100 investment tells Google you're not a flash-in-the-pan spammer, but someone who plans to be around for a while.
5. Anonymize your domain name registration. Don't let Google's whois robots know that all of the domains in your network are owned by the same person.
6. Bookmark exchange with your friends, family, and other MLMers. Before you bookmark exchange (save in your browser favorites list), make sure you and the person you are exchanging with have installed the Google toolbar, which is the primary way Google learns who you have bookmarked. This will cast a "vote" for your site every time someone clicks on it in their bookmarks.
7. Find link exchange partners. Two programs that work remarkably well in finding link partners are: LinkMarket and LinkMetro. You'll find that as your PageRank grows, more and more people will seek you out and request exchanges with you. The more relavent link partners you have the higher your SE PR....and the higher your placement in the SE listings. Just make sure you have a seperate page for your links withing your websites.
Well...there's a few out of the ordinary internet marketing tips you may not have heard of before. But....that also means you'll be 1 of the few in the know, using and benefiting from them too.

Thanks FF for the detail. I just bought a domain name for 1 year. The hosting company called me back to suggest that I increase the length of our agreement. I gave him the "I'll think about it" response thinking that they were just giving me a sales pitch. Thanks for reinforcing that for me. I now recognize that there is good reason for that suggestion.
p.s. I also ignored their recommendation to make my whois info anonymous. I'll fix that too.

What are the benefits of whois info anonymous?
I'm not sure if I've done this.....I would of thought
it would of been better the other way around by
allowing people to see who you are. Or am I totally
off-track with this????!!!!!

One good reason for me is security. When I first set up my domain, it wasn't secure. You could look at the whois info and see all my personal information: my name, address, phone, etc.
In a perfect world, that would be no problem, but not everybody on the internet are here with honorable intentions. There are tons of folks out there scrounging for emails and phone #'s to do their marketing or whatever else they decide to do with that information.
I don't want those types of people to know so much about me. To me, it's worth the extra cost to make everything secure. I'll give out the contact information that I want to give out in the format that I want it in.
There are probably more reasons, but that's the reason I chose.

I believe email marketing is the best form of marketing. This is because someone needs to be exposed to your opportunity 5-7 times before making a choice. Also, it gives you the ability to create a list and we all know that the money is in the list.
Some people don't seem to like this route. That is because it sometimes takes a lot of time in order to get your own leads instead of buying them. Remember...all the huge marketers are the ones with the biggest lists.
A good way to get started is to add a newsletter link to your blog and add quality content to your blog and you will see people starting to come on in!

while what you have shared is useful but it sounds a little generic to all of us here in this forum.
What we would appreciate if you share in specific if you used a mass mailing to your friends and families (we know that mailing to unknown parties are considered spam and it is distasteful)
OR
You paid an email advertising company for your ads in order for people to read your emails.
By the way, I assume that you are getting opt-ins and not signups ?

while it is true that video or audio is becoming more and more of a trend right now which can be applied to web education purposes...
What you are saying that email marketing gives you the ability to market these. I'm in no way saying that it cannot work but I'd just like to explain that most users would rather have your email "send" them to the specific page if they choose to download the video itself.

Hi!
You can ask any expert, email marketing is superior. Autoresponder email marketing with a personal touch is unbeatable. It takes some time though to build a list and it's easy to take the shortcut by advertising your primary business directly.
Also, it's a bit scary if you're not native english speaking. Writing copy is an art in itself and trying to do it in a foreign language doesn't make it easier. Don't let that stop you.

I have read all the responses. And as you'll see, I'm doing almost all of it. But,I haven't been at this very long, and I am getting frustrated a little bit. But I'm blasting my url all over the net, I'm associated with a couple of traffic exchange sites, I'm doing google adwords and lord knows what else. My sponsor is bringing people in my line by the dozens. I have sponsored a couple of people so far.
Now the question. What else can I do to grow the other side of my business? It's a binary downline. In a week I have 150 in one leg, but I am having trouble filling the other leg. My sponsor is working off of his own personal list, which I don't have privey to, so where do I go from here?

Lead generation and online marketing is one of the hardest parts of having a business. There is a lot of advice and tips available, however, finding a method that works is tricky.
Most business owners would love to learn how to get prospects calling you rather than you calling them.So how do you learn how to explode your down line? By taking everything you know plus all the information about online marketing available on the internet and getting back to the basics. Everything a person will read about online marketing will come down to a few basic points. It is these basic points that hold the key to successfully marketing. Once a person identifies these points they can begin to learn how to market effectively and the results will explode their down line and even get prospects calling them.
The first point to marketing is to grab the customers' attention. This means making an ad that is eye catching and that stands out from other ads. This can be done with words, images or even an odd placement of the ad. An ad must grab a persons attention or they are not likely to even give it a glance.
The second point is to engage the customer. This means once their attention has been caught the ad needs to do something to keep their attention and make them read it. Sometimes this is done by making a bold statement or offering advice or a freebie. It’s great to catch the attention of a customer but if they do not read the ad then the effort is lost.
The third point is to teach the reader something. This can be telling them something about the product or service or it can be educating them on why they need the product or service. Teaching them something proves the business owner is smart and knows about their product. This in turn leads the customer to trust the business owner and makes them more likely to do business with them.
The fourth point is to provide proof. A business owner must prove what they are saying is true. Customers are more likely to shop at a business that tells the truth and can back up what they are saying.
The last step is to sell. Many times in advertising business owners forget to sell. It is very important to ask for the customers business. This is the point to close the sale by making it impossible for the customer to not call or shop with this business.
These five steps sum up all the information that can be found about online marketing. These are the basics a business owner needs to successfully market their business and get customers. The bottom line is a person should follow all these steps and be creative. Creativity is key to making marketing efforts successful.

Fantastic ideas,
One important tip you appear not to touch on is personal development.
We will naturally attract customers more quickly if our self belief is strong and this can only come from developing ourselves continuously.
From my own personal experience I've found its not so much a selling process but relationship building (even though we do carry out the "activities" as you have detailed to get prospects in the pipeline).
Activities + Relationship building + Good followup must = Success?
