Karen:
Traffic Swarm alone can not work, you have to advertise it with other advertising programs. Free advertising does work. However you have to be careful with the program you join in.
In any business, there are only two things you must invest: time and money. If you do have enough money, you have to invest your time. There is so such thing as real free. If you can not spend too much time clicking on the ads you receive, then you have to upgrade and spend money to buy credits or points. But I do suggest you join the programs as a free member and try it to see whether you like it.
The standard for a good safelistbuilding program is it has a higher conversion rate. Which means, you can your ad read and later convert your reader into a buyer. And Use those programs that give you credits, which will become your incentive to do the boring clicking.
I personally recommend leadsleap and gotsafelist.
Good luck
Patience

Word of mouth is still one of the best free advertising tools today. We do this naturally and we do it almost every single day. When you recommend a favourite work at home website, rave about a great marketing e-book, share a new business adventure or talk about a new product with such enthusiasm you are spreading the word. One friend will tell another and so on and so on.
Signature advertising is by far the single easiest methods available. Use it in forums (where it is permitted) and emails. A signature file or sig file is a text of information about your business that may include your name, your email address, telephone number and other pertinent information. The link is automatically appended to outgoing emails and internet postings (forums). Signature advertising creates one way back links to your business or website and drives targeted traffic to your website.
Writing articles have proven time and time again how powerful and effective it really is. It drives traffic to your website creating more exposure, you gain more incoming links and you get higher ranking in search engines. The more traffic you receive the more profits you make, but it's only effective if you write quality articles rich in keywords and keyword phrases and provide useful information. Otherwise, no one will want to re-print them and your resource box like a signature file is null and pointless.
From community forums to social networking sites such as Ryze, Facebook, MySpace, Adland Pro etc. networking groups is taking its place among the other great free advertising options. It's a place to gather, meet, share, discuss, inform and learn about various businesses. The same can be said for networking marketing in the real world where you can meet in person at various venues.

I posted quite a free ads for a while there, and like so many people I got the "please send more info" e-mails, clearly from people trying to sell me stuff!
But it wasn't a complete waste of time. I have received some enquiries from the geo-specific classifieds sites I posted to (I have a flyer delivery service). So if you can find ones for your city, it might still be worth it.
And there is another benefit. Because classified ads are category specific, and link juice does flow from some of these sites (not sure which ones!) it can lift your search engine rankings somewhat.
I think that this is what happened to my site after my free ad campaign, because a while after completing it I ended up on page one of Google for my flyer distribution page, and have received several calls since then from direct searches.

| I don't think I have ever seen anything good coming from freebie classifieds. I tried that route more than a few times and ended up as a wash with each attempt.

| What are most people using lately? I did some free ads before, and even some lower priced ones but then I found a site that does search engine ads for a reasonable price. When you think of all the time spent on doing the things yourself, I am wondering why others keep wasting that time? Its hard to get things like adwords set up and work perfect for what you need. I gave up after a year fighting with stuff, saved up and got a ad with Dojo Hut and for the past few months its already paid its money back to me. I'm just confused why others still go the hard route, is there something I am missing?

| I agree in my opinion free ads are a wate of time, unless you own the website then it is a great way to collect names and e mail addresses

I love solo ads from the traffic exchanges! I am on the phone a lot and like to click while I listen to calls. It is kinda fun and the clicks get me solo's which have worked really well for us!

Hey, I agree! I don't actually use the free ad places only because there is way to much compitition. I am saving now to get a good ad out there.
But meanwhile some of the free things that do work are on the newer traffic exchanges.
I stay away from those that send me 1000 solos a day, but the ones that send about 10-15 a day are actually really working. I add up my points and send out a solo about every 3 days. They work really well.
I guess what your missing is some folks might have luck with those, I haven't, you haven't, but maybe someone has?? Plus I think some people have a hard time saving for advertising??

http://www.usfreeads.com/ is a great place to put ads. Search engines really like this site and if you get some good keywords you can get the ads on the first page of search results.

I know exactly what you feel like. Same position I was in when I first started. What you have to do to make classifieds work is to post tons of them maybe about 50 or more per day to really see some traffic. But don't just rely on one source. If your marketing budget is low right now do this:
Article marketing
Press Releases
Videos
Social Networks
Classifieds
Blogs
All free marketing until you get some capital to do paid advertising. Hope this helps.

Free ads usually have some restrictions, like how much an item can be sold for. They also tend to be marketed to a smaller subscriber pool. This means that lees people will see a free ad.

| You want to use a comination of free and paid advertising but definitely you do want to be paying for some of your advertising. Don't be afraid to spend big on paid advertising if that particular method you have chosen to pay for has been proven through successful campaigns to work. Paid advertising usually gives you the biggest bang for your buck in my experience if its done right. I will usually pay for co-reg advertising, or buy one time offers in list builders. Certain articles sites that require a charge I will also pay for at times. Last edited on Wed Feb 10th, 2010 04:20 pm by krunk
