Sheila,
I always recommend SBI (SiteBuildIt). Look in the Support Ad board here and you'll find a thread on them from me. There's also a few reviews on their service at the Best MLM Resources blog (link below) and on the Small Business Resources Cafe blog..
God Bless,
Michael

Hi Shiela,
I use SBI, too, and love them. I probably would never have been able to build a successful online business without them.
You'll need a bit more than SBI to set up the kind of site you are looking for. But once you have your main site built, adding on the feature for items for sale, etc., will be a snap.
Some people tend to get the cart before the horse and just set up a site like a product catalog, but then can't get any traffic to the site without paying big money for it.
With SBI, you'll learn to build the site in such a way that you'll get plenty of free traffic and then you can monetize it in a variety of ways, including your products.
Have fun!
Angie

| Before you start building your site you need to do keyword research. This is an important and often overlooked part to building a new page.

I would strongly recommend using a blog platform as firstly the search engines LOVE them as they are classed as dynamic content sites.
Before you go building a site I would strongly suggest making a master plan that you will be following otherwise you may find yourself implementing a number of tasks that could be time wasting.

| Get an outline and a gameplan before hand, the last thing you want is to spend two months getting it together after you finished builing. There is a lot of help out there. Just dont get overwhelmed.

the only issues I have with SiteBuildIt is it is so generic. Blogs are also a good web presence to have and many topics can be found including the help pages on Wordpress or Blogger, but if you possess no knowledge of SEO, you are in the dust. Setting up a web page is a good start.
If you go to about.com and search there. Many of them have writers which teach you basic HTML and how to write computer code and have your own web site set up in no time. Trust me...it's a lot easier than you think.
You can learn SEO also, but if you are wanting to get things done really fast, due to time constraints, you may opt for hiring a third party web marketer who can push your site up the rankings.

I think a blog is a great way to start. You can do so much on a blog and have so many options. So using them to get your business going.
I tend to build my own static sites though. I have found that it was not hard to learn and this way I have total control over them.

I am an SBIer, and I have to agree, that the sites themselves are somewhat generic. However, I'm totally new to the internet, and when I put my site up, I didn't have the cash to get a real "snappy" site up and running. SBI has given me an education in the internet to say the least! It's been a fun process, I've learned an unbelievable amount, and, when I need to update my website with the latest "whiz-bang" html, then I can do that fairly effortlessly. SBI is a great way to start on the web if you're new to it!

I like wordpress, there is so many plugins and easy to build traffic with as well.
You can also build your site on a shoe string budget with WP.
