Has anyone managed to switch off the double opt-in in their AWeber avccount once it has been switched on?
(Or found another solution that I am not aware of please?)
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi chrisparish,
I use aweber, I don't think you can switch it off as they are very strict about spam. They have a good reputation and want to keep it intact. Its probably better to work your list with the double "opt in on." Also they have one of the highest deliverability rates around.

Thanks xlogic2
I understand why the want it on. I'm not planning to spam anyone, I just want to secure the biggest list possible.

chrisparish,
The default Verified-Optin in Aweber is turned to ON by default. You can login to Aweber, Choose List Settings then Verified Opt-in to turn it OFF. However, if you then turn it back ON you cannot switch it OFF again. Like xlogic2 said, it is better to work your list with the setting ON... which will reduce the number of possible spam complaints.

If you want to build a "single opt" list and you've already turned on the "double opt" the only thing you can do is create a new list and NOT turn this option on. Just switch the Aweber forms on your website and you should be good to go.
Hope that helps...

The real issue here is WHY you want only a single-opt-in system — and that's almost always for reasons that are more in favour of the sender and NOT in favour of the recipient.
I own the Zip-Cart.com IM Automation System (integrated email, shopping cart, affiliate management, etc) and there's simply NO way that we'd consider anything less than verified opt-in.
The risks are too high, not just from abusers like spammers, but from inexperienced people who haven't a clue about acceptable online behaviour.
Aweber.com is committed to safe service, and this is reflected in their recent price hikes. It's expensive to protect your service for the benefit of all users.
We manage it by only allowing you to use your own domain name in outgoing messages. So if anyone finds a way around the system and rules, it's THEIR domain that gets blocked by the real-time block lists, not our own or other users of our service.

Aweber will not allow you disable double opt in after it is on.
As state by aweber
"Confirmed Opt-In is automatically enabled for all subscription methods in your AWeber account. It is the best way to ensure that you have both permission and the audit trail necessary for good message deliverability.
Why Can't I Disable It?
Confirmed Opt-In is designated by ISPs as the best way to manage your list. It ensures that only people who want your information are subscribed, and protects you from blocking/filtering due to false spam complaints.
So that we can provide the best deliverability possible to you, once you begin to use Confirmed Opt-In with your web form signups you'll need to continue to use it."
