Hey there larryjohn,
As far as mlm tax courses I believe the name is Sandy Botkin. He's a specialist in this stuff. I'll look and see if I find a link to his site but I'm sure if you google his name you'll find his tax courses.

There's a good online radio station that is dedicated to Internet marketing programs. They have a lot of tapes, conference calls, etc. about various forms of online marketing.

I agree with freedomfire...
I found a dramatic increase in profits when I advertised within newspapers.
A company that is into International Advertising is good, such as through the trade and exchange where youu place an ad to over 230 worldwide trading publications, where you can reach up to 60 million weekly readers and the rates are quite cost-effective.

Traffic Exchange: TS25, WebIsider, Traffic Swam etc (more than 10 TE),
Ad Tracking to track my advertising campaign
Pay per Click you can try MIVA, Search123, Enhance.
Forums over 10 forums
Offline I use:
Flyers
News paper Ad
I recently learned about Greeting Cards technique but I have not done it yet.

I have a successful jewlery business on Ebay and have done so for 7 years now. I promote worldventures opportunity with inserts with every piece of jewerly I sell. I am surprised at the interest that is generated by doing this. These are already customers of mine and in most cases repeat customers. This has really given my business a big shot in the arm. Thank you for your information. The AdWords website Trafficology is being really useful, it helps to realise that it takes time to prepare and do a good advertising. On the other hand you can safe money.

I use Ad Tracking to track my campaigns and my GDI Hits Log tell me exactely were my sign ups are coming from.
So, from my experience, Traffic Exchange and Forums are delivering good results and they are FREE.

A good way to help your conversion when trying to close is if you have some type of money back money back guarantee, you can say something along the lines of, "if we can get you started today without taking a penny from your pocket would you like to get started?" Creating the sense that they have nothing to lose can help greatly. Even though their actually paying by credit card their not spending any out of pocket money and they can make their money back before ever having to pay their first bill or they can just use the refund policy which we don't want.
