*  Don't focus on you and your needs...over the person(s)/network and their needs.  Business is business...but successful business is relationships.  Make a new friend...grow an old friend.  Listen and give first, most, and often....humbley receive later.  The long term benefits far outweigh any short term gains.

*  Don't be all take..and no give.  True networking is win-win.  Truely successful networking is over deliver and under receive.  The reputation you gain with this approach  over time will multiply what comes back your way as your credibility and respect grows across the community.

*  Don't be who you aren't....be helpful, be honest, be yourself, and have fun.  Being who you are attracts those who best connect with "you" and leads to a more rewarding experience all around.  Relax and enjoy the experience with "your own face" up front.

*  Don't "ask" and not give back.  If you are given referals, advice, business, informative replies to your posts, etc. .... give back more than you recieved.  This solidifies individual and network relationship(s), enhances your credibility, and grows your reputation.  Nothing kills a networking relationship more than someone who takes and gives back little or nothing.

*  Don't ignore your strengths....share what you know, experienced, have access to, etc. Posting helpful information and resources for the community's benefit (NOT overt solicitations and "look at me") related to your area of expertise brands you as a trusted and credible resource for that subject...and will bring interested parties your way.  If you don't share...no one will know what you can offer.  Thus no accumulated credibilty.

*  Don't fake it....stick to what you know.  Jumping into a "discussion" or relationship alluding to yourself as knowledgable when you're not....will kill any chance for credibility.  In fact it will have the opposite affect you'll likely never recover from.

*  Don't overlook opportunities to help....you may not have the answer, resources, product/service but you may know who does.  Pass that along to who needs it.  Unselfishly refering others gets noticed....and you'll find yourself being "refered" the same way.

*  Don't attack the messenger....debate the topic.  Everyone will not agree on everything.  It's best to agree to disagree...and seek mutual education and understanding in that vein.  Attacking an individual benefits no one and hurts everyone involved.

*  Don't impose your view....no one is/has the perfect "anything".  Arrogance, ego, conceit, rigidity   have no place in true dialogue and real networking. It's about the community....NOT YOU.  Be open and encouraging to divergent views and opinions of others.  Ackowledging and even appreciating those who differ from you actually promotes a more healthy networking community.

*  Don't violate network policies....whatever the expected ettiquite of the group is conduct yourself accordingly.  Spamming, flamming, trolling, etc. should never be in your business tool box.  Credibility instantly goes poof for anyone and everyone who brazenly overlooks this common ethic.

God Bless,
Michael

Michael, this is realy good!.

Thanks

DL, true wisdom there. I think there is a spiritual law that covers that one. Give and you will receive. We forget how powerful that little formula is, and best of all, it always works! Now we may not get back the exact thing we were hoping to get, but we will be blessed. In here as well as in our prospecting, adding value expecting nothing in return always brings a return, often much greater than if we expected one.

BTW I have been to your neck of the woods, Manassas. The name always makes me think of the picture on the cover of Stephen Stills album back in the 70's by that same name. It is a truly beautiful area up there. Virginia, like North Carolina is God's country for sure. I think my favorite spot in all of Virginia has to be the Shenandoah Valley.

Hi Nick,
I'm new here, so I hope I keep on track for you & meet with your approval.
Sometimes people see things differently, you know!

I was somewhere else this morning & someone asked a question & about 10 answers came in over a few days & only one was actually in response to the real question asked.

The person asking the original Q did not clearly identify his question, because he was too new to see the difference & so everyone went off in a different direction!
It was only when someone stopped long enough to help him clarify his Q, that a suitable answer was forthcoming.

So, to stay on point, my contribution would have to be...clarify the question/point being made, either by asking the original poster or do so directly in your post.
Regards
Mary

A great way to look totally stupid in my humble opinion, is to tell everybody how rich you are from this MLM business.  If this person is so rich, why do they not go and spend some money instead of spamming everybody !?

Just my 2c worth.

WOW!

Tough group.  I can speak from the heart and say that small errors can also hurt you online.  One thing that comes to mind is SPELLING and GRAMMAR.

YIKES!

Believe it or not in the day and age of the "blog" and looking professional you need to be careful what you say, how you say it and spell check before posting.

I recently read a blog where someone was picking apart blogs.  Yes spelling and grammar errors in blogs are being looked at. So be careful and take your time.  Say what you mean and mean what you say.

We all make mistakes, It happens.

Spamming discussion forums is not a good way to go.  If you have something useful to add to a discussion, that will build your credibility... however if you just go around posting about your "wonderful opportunity" in everything that you post, then people will find you annoying and will give no weight to what you have to say.

Excellent information on this forum. It is all about credibility & trust. It seems whenever I am on the Internet there are too many people saying that don't need to do anything you can do it backwards in your spare time.  Then trying to give information that is misleading, deceptive or dishonest in nature, you are only hurting yourself in the long run.   This is serious folks! I recently got an email that read the following below..

"The government is cracking down on Internet Marketers breaking the law!" They are not messing around.

They are not cutting them any slack, the FTC is shutting them down. They are not accepting ignorance as an excuse. To learn more go to http://www.internetlawcompliance.com I know this is frank & straight forward.  That is true. So are the consequences.  As anyone who is familiar with this will agree.

I am not telling anyone this to scare them, just to inform them as a friend looking out for them. I don't wish it on anyone.  Just  trying to help them to see that they need to change & know the laws, then not cross the line.  Really, no one wants to go there.

Unfortunately, that has also been happening on some of the forums as well.  You have got to do your research on the company you are looking at.  That is important. You are the company you represent.  It is reflected in everything we do online & offline.

When you are on the forums too, do you make sure the information you provide is accurate, helpful and useful?  It is all about credibility and reputation that you have on the line. Once you lose it is hard to get it back, if you are lucky enough to recover from it. Think of it this way..

What email are you more likely to read in your INBOX, one that provides value, educational, beneficial information, solves a problem-or one that is promoting some ad that you never requested or asked for?  The same is true on a forum. You need to always be willing to give, instead of seeing what you can get.

Your reputation counts!

About bungling... now what the heck does that mean? I mean what does it really mean? does it mean screwing up or tripping over ones feet? Probably both...and at the same time to.

To BUNGLE is to perform your work clumsily or inadequately. Basically not taking your business seriously enough will cause you to bungle your credibility.

If you want to FLOP your credibility that is, if you want your credibility to fall flat on it’s face, here how you can do it. Make all kinds of promises and never follow through while jumping from one biz op to the next week after week after week.

Now if you really want to BOTCH your credibility online just do a crappy job of all that is expected of you. Never answer your emails, be clumsy, disorganized all mixed up. Lie through your teeth steal peoples money and abuse their trust.

Yep, that’ll do it!

Your reputation counts. A reputation is a favourable and publicly recognized name, standing for merit, achievement, reliability. It is something you build over time as people learn to trust you and come to know you as a dependable person who will follow through on your word.

Best wishes of success for all the newbies and the not so newbies

Sincerely

mbob

A good and strong credibility takes a lot of effort to make but it takes only a mistake to destroy it.

- Never ever pretend, be what and who you are.
- Never give unsolicited advices to other networkers
- Never bold letters and use extremely "eye-catching" banners or whatever. If you do, these won't be eye-catching but rather pain on the eye. People will think you are a spammer.
- Never give negative comment to any other network businesses unless you experienced first hand if one online business really doesn't work or give benefits to you.
- Never argue, remember that arguing is next to ruining yourself in the online community.
- Never ever belittle any of your networking colleagues. You may never know what are they going to say on the forums.
- Never ever forget to pray for your success!

Always remember that in networking we always attract positive energies. Never ever entertain negative energies to be present in your and in your name.

I hope that helps.

jay ^^

The other forum posters already said pretty much everything. The only thing I can add is that you shouldn't be overbearing and too pushy in your sales process. Give them good content and don't seem as if you're only looking after their money (and don't be!).

Keep this going please.  There's lots of folks who stop in here and could use the advice.  Before they make a dumb mistake like spamming, trolling, flaming, etc.

Here's a couple quick tips:

*  Don't hijack a thread in a different direction than intended.  Stick to what the thread originator asked/shared.  If they ask about A.... don't talk about B.

*  Don't carry on personal banter in a thread.....it adds no benefit to the topic or the membership learning opportunity.  Please have that exchange via PM.

*  Don't bash, flame, take a "mine's better than your's" attitude

*  Don't leave nonsense as a reply .... "nice info", "I agree",  "good stuff", "great article", yada yad adds nothing to the discussion.  Contribute something useful ... that other is just junk and useless.  (note: it's often used to "seed" your sig link which we see right thru as a trolling tactic ... AND I will delete it and you).

*  NEVER spam with your bizop

*  PLEASE read through all the threads in a discussion board before starting you're own.  You don't want to duplicate a question, comment, tip, etc. that's already been brought up.  That annoys the old timers.  (I'll also delete it or combine it into the original thread depending on how I feel).

God Bless,
Michael

Wow, so much good advice and i didnt even have time to read them all.

All i can say, its first important to build repor, you dont want to push your ideas on someone else. Live it first, and let people be drawn to what you do .

Also, use legitimate ways of getting traffic, dont spam, and give value to your products.

*best of all, actually be a team leader, dont sign people up and then let them die out.. help them build their team and there business. We all started somewhere.
