I've recently joined the article marketing craze a few months ago and have enjoyed the results I've seen with it. Although I'm confused about the actual truth regarding submitting my articles to directories. Recently I submitted my article's to three different article directories, each of them got approved at various times. When the first article website approved my articles I had top Google placements on organic searches for the 'keywords' I was trying to target. This was great! Then the other two websites approved and submitted those articles. I was thinking that this was great and that I'd have another couple articles on top placements for my keywords that I was targeting.
Boy was I wrong! Every single article that I had written had dropped from the Top places that I had just achieved. In fact I couldn't even find my articles listed anymore on Google! So whats the deal? What is the truth regarding article submission? Should we only focus and submit our article to ONE site? Was this some kind of fluke? I know Google likes original content, but come on losing placement because 3 article sites had my articles! So whats the truth everyone? Submit to as many as you can? Or limit it to only one for top google positioning?

| I have found that I blog and social bookmark for search engine traffic and I do article marketing for article directory traffic. I do use the Article Leverage Program at SubmitYourArticle.com which is helpful in getting unique articles into the marketplace.

I personally do not ever submit my articles to more than two directories and usually only to one. I will sometimes also post the same article on my blog or in a forum but you do have to be careful about duplicate content. I also find it works great to write an article specifically targeted for a certain ezine or website. These get great results but usually must also be unique to that place.

You are perfectly fine submitting to several directories. I submit to about 5 each time I write an article.
I also post the article to my blog as well for content.
As it relates to duplicate content, many people get spooked only because they really don't have the full grasp of "how and when" duplicate content negatively impacts you.
Here is an ebook especially about the duplicate content issue in detail. Take a look!

Hey,
Well here is the thing, I wasn't that worried about it or spooked until I watched my article drop off of the Google organics results top spot that I had. This all occurred after my second article directory made my article 'live'. This occurred for a few days until I decided to remove my articles from the second directory. Within 24 hours my articles were back up on top without a problem.

Ok. Well whatever works for you. My intent was to convey the message that it's better to have your article in many places where people can find you, than to be focused only on the top position in one search place. If people bump into your articles everywhere they go, they begin to think, hey this guy must really know his stuff.
Think about McDonalds, they are not the best, but they are everywhere. As a result, they become the best because the familiarity is so extensive.
But, not trying to stop your flow mann. Just giving feedback on your original post.
To your success,
Tracey

| I am having problems with people re-printing my articles on their site, and I am listed as the author, but the re-printed article is nothing but nonsense. It is not my original article AT ALL. I cannot figure out what is going on. I leave comments on their sites asking them to remove my articles, but I don't hear back from them. Has this happened to anyone else?

The great thing about article marketing is backlinks...not necessarily high search engine rankings.
If a ezine ends up picking up an article of yours to publish....that is really where you start to see your backllinks for you.

Just a follow-on note to this. There is a concept that John Reese (look at his stuff at income.com) that talks about your "digital footprint". The bigger your digital footprint, the easier it is for people to find you.
Think of it this way. If you only ever read from one forum, then you will limit the number of people you are exposing yourself to. Many forums equals many exposures.
So, in essence, submit to as many directories as you can, enhancing your digital footprint.

There are certainly different opinions on this subject out there. And I don't think there is a right or wrong way here. What is your main focus? Getting at the top of the search engines with your articles or developing an even larger presence on the Internet.
I use my articles for positions at the SE's, but not solely for that purpose. I also want some of those articles to be in as many places as possible that fits my niche.
I use my blog and peronal website(s) for SE's. So, I believe it really depends on YOU and your main focus.
Play around with it and decide what is right for YOU.

I have submitted many articles and the issue of weather to submit to one directory or many has been a dilemma for many. Some say the best way to do it is to submit your article to as many relevant directories as possible. But I have found this doesn’t always give the best results.
If you are submitting the same article to a lot of article directories you need to change up the title of your article and tweak the content. Why because many search engines will not display the same title or article repeatedly, but if you change the title you will find your articles will get more exposure.
Also you will be able to test different titles and see which ones show up on a search. If you know of any other great tips to getting max exposure of an article let us know.

I submit my articles to many article directories mainly for backlinks but also for traffic. It's good to see visitors coming to my site from all over the net and with people lurking every where having your article posted on several sites can't hurt.

Yes blogs and articlesare a true way to get targeted traffic. That one thing I would like to get across.
When someone reads your blog then goes to your site they are the best prospect you can have they feel like they know you so that wall that most come up against with most prospects is not there with prospects from articles or blogs.
They are normaly real nice and gald to hear from you when you contact them.
