I remember being new to MLM and article writing. It seemed impossible for me to come up with pointed topics that would be of help to anyone.

I was new and what possibly could I share with anyone!

A lot of that changed for me when I stopped obsessing on making money and started focusing on helping others. It changed even more powerfully when I started accepting help from others!

So for for our new people, let's share, here in this thread,  where we get our inspiration for what we choose to write and publish.

I'll start:

Again when I changed my focus, what to write came fairly easy. As I tried new ways to market my business, I found new ways to fail at it! It's very true! But that is the nature of the beast. Test, evaluate, augment, and test again.

In my failures and my successes is where I found my inspiration for writing an article. As I mastered different aspects of the business I would write about it.

For example traffic exchanges. As a new person, traffic exchanges were confusing to me. So I spent a lot of time working them until I got the results that I wanted. Then I wrote about it! And I just went down the line: Auto Responders, lead capture, lead generation, adwords, 800 #'s, bandit signs, downline training, list building, blah blah blah!

You may be new to MLM and feel that you don't have a voice but that is not true! Focus on running your business, be generous, ask a lot of questions and network and you will find your voice.

I can't wait to read other peoples experiences!

Take Very Good Care

I liked that you found something confusing to you, did some research, and made it simple for others. That's what writing articles should be about! =:)

For beginners who are unsure about whether they "know enough" to write an article, let me assure you that while you won't necessarily become an expert on something in an evening, you *can* become pretty well versed on just about anything (well, outside of rocket science, brain surgery, etc.)

Following is an excerpt from a manual I wrote about using search engines to help gather raw materials for ebooks, articles, special reports, etc.

I hope it's not too long, and that someone finds it helpful.

Thanks.

Jay Jennings

(start of excerpt)

Step 2 - Gathering Raw Material

Coming up in the next few days we’re going to need some “raw materials” that we can use to create autoresponder messages, blog entries (yes, you’re going to have a blog), articles, and maybe even a tips ebook.

If you have a high degree of knowledge about your chosen subject, you can just pull the raw material from your brain, but the rest of us are going to take advantage of the search engines.

If you’re starting to have a panic attack because you don’t consider yourself a writer, stop freaking. This part is really easy. Yes, if you do have “writing genes” it’ll be easier for you, but even normal people can handle this.

Especially because this is just the finding phase, not the writing phase. =:)

Here’s the Process

For this next step you need a text editor (such as Notepad) and your browser.

Open Google in your browser and do some searches for your topic. For example, if you chose quilting as your topic (and you probably shouldn’t have, but this is just an example), do this search:

+quilting +tip

Just in case you didn’t know, using the plus signs before the words tells Google you only want results that have both the word quilting AND the word tip in it. (If your keyword is actually a key phrase, such as youth hostel, your search would look like this: +”youth hostel” +tips The quotes tell Google to keep those words together.)

In the results that are returned, look for title and descriptions that look promising -- that look like if you clicked through you’d find some good tips. When you spot one, don’t click through, just copy that link and paste it into the blank page of your text editor.

Keep looking through the first 20-30 results, pasting each new find on a blank line of the text editor.

Now, do a search for this: +quilting +tutorial -- and copy any promising URLs.

You’ll continue to do this for all of the following searches:

+topic +tip
+topic +tutorial
+topic +faq
+topic +news
+topic +blog
+topic +review
+topic +technique
+topic +trick
+topic +resource

When you’re done you should have a good-sized list of web sites with content you can use. (Now would be a good time to save your file in case something happens!)

Note! Don’t get it in your head that I mean for you to copy someone else’s content -- that’s a shortcut to cease-and-desist letters and all manner of unpleasant things. However, there’s nothing wrong with reading information and putting it in your own words.

Start at the top of your list and put the first URL into your browser. Scan the site and look for content you can “repurpose.” When you find something, copy and paste it into your list of URLs, just below the URL you grabbed it from. Just grab it verbatim right now, we’ll rewrite it later.

You’re looking for enough information to create the following:
• A series of autoresponder messages - need 4 tips
• Articles - need 3 to start with
• Blog entries - 20 will last you for a month
• Bonus special report - a top 10 list

That might seem like a lot, but there’s a formula for creating them that will make the process pretty simple and we’ll get into that in a few days.

Remember, right now you’re not supposed to be writing any of those tips, you’re just grabbing the raw materials that we’ll use later.

To grab a series of URLs and then look through them to find enough content for 37 pieces of content should take you and evening or two, depending on what topic you chose. Be sure and save your “raw materials” file -- you’ll need it in a few days.

Remember, if you end up with 100 URLs but have found a ton of raw content within the first 30, you’re free to stop. =;) Of course, keep the list around for later if/when you want to go back and mine for more raw materials.

After reading the above steps you might be thinking, “Man, that’s time-consuming!”

Please haul off and give yourself a nice swift kick in the butt if that’s what you were thinking. Because while it does take a little time, it’s not “busy work” like so much work is in a “real job.”

This is the stuff that will build your internet marketing business.

If you want money for nothing, buy a lottery ticket. But this is the real thing!

Infogoround.com is good and if you write an article each month you get your monthly membership cost rebated. I have used them for over a year for many different things and they are great.

Using ghost writers is a great way to get articles out there. This does cost, but in the end, it saves you tons of time.

If you wish to write your own or do not want to fork out the $$$ for a ghost writer, I have found by doing my "legwork" and research regarding my topic, I can put together some pretty good articles.

There are also alot of PLR articles that you can use and rebrand as your own. Check out my blog, Annies Cashflow Secrets. for some of those:

Thanks for the comments. I was pretty proud of myself when I got the homepage of my website set up. But I've been stressing as to where to find content for the sight and I still need to set up a blog.

I have considered paying or some articles to begin.

Jay, the steps you posted will be helpful. It will give me a good starting point.

Thanks again

Dan

ArticleMarketer.com owes me $930 in affiliate commissions and they owe a lot of people. This goes back to May for me. They will not return emails and are more than happy to let their affiliates continue to make sales for them knowing full well they can not pay.

As far as using them I have serious doubts about whether they will be in business much longer. At the very least they are not a company that cares about their affiliates. Proceed with caution with them.

Here is how I come up with four to five keyword optimized original articles each week.

A good way to come up with keyword ootimized articles with original content is to use the keyword tool at http://adwords.google.com.  Look for a keyword or keyword phrase that is less than 25% full in the searches bar.  the do an exact phrase match search with the " " at the beginning and end.

Look for 10,000 or less pages.  I like to look for a phrase that gets perhaps a few hundred pages.  I know it is being searched but not so often that my article will not be found in a keyword phrase search.

Then go to the following sources to find good articles:

http://www.webtechi.com/Articles/Traffic_Building.htm

http://www.ezinearticles.com/

http://www.goarticles.com/index.html

http://www.articledashboard.com/

Look for three or four good articles and copy and paste some paragraphis into a wordpad document.  you will then need to edit the article so the content is prigina, make sure your keyword phrase is proprely placed often enoug and then spell check the article in a word processing program.

Keep it to around 500 words, then go to http://www.notetab.com/ntl.php to formet and wordwrap the text.

You are now ready to submit your article.

Jon

I use http://ezinearticles.com. as far as find what to write about - Whatever you have just learnt is great. In MLM there is an opportunity to learn every day.

I tend to do thing Bass ackward and write first and then find the KW to suit. I screw up all the time so I have plenty to write about.

Thanks for the heads up, jschuman.

If they go belly up, then this action of theirs would have to be seen as fraud, IMHO. :X

I thoroughly checked out this site yesterday, listened to one of Maria Marsala's calls and joined her list. This was because of a recommendation for this site in another thread. I probably would have paid the $499.99 for lifetime membership, too. Now I'll sit on the sidelines and watch.

No criticism of anyone else, though. It just goes to show that you can never be too careful.

Wonderful tips, Jay. I read every word and will use the info.

This is the sort of giving that we should all do, and that will lead to a great forum-experience for us all.

Thanks for the example, Jay.

Kindest regards,

Andreas

Jay,

Your tips are right on the money.

I would also add that you want to look for and find long tail keyword phrases that are searched failrly often but have low competition.

I will go to http://www.nichebot.com, http://adwords.google.com and http://www.goodkeywords.com to do my initial keyword research.  I then take a phrase with a high keyword effectiveness index score and do an exact phrase match in Google.

I have foundthat of the results give betweej 800 and 2500 pages and I do three articles optimized for that phrase, the articles will show on the first page of Google in avout three weeks.  Sooer, in about two days, when I post them on my blog

Jon

I believe you are right Huntman1.  When I first started writting articles I got it all wrong.  However, I did some research on the subject of article writing & I was amazed at all the things I discovered I had been doing wrong.

I needed to do my homework & change my focus from myself to having a conviction for helping others in mind when I wrote.   That was when passion was born.  Then watch out, that is when the creativity & inspiration of ideas just flowed from within.  If your motives are pure & you are sincerely looking to help your readers.  The skys the limit!

If you follow these principles you cannot help but be successful.

One thing that works for me is to look for posts in forums that are getting a lot of action. I look at the question and some of the replies.

Then I write and article about it. I will go to Pixelfast.com/overture and find a keyword that is getting 100 searches a month and will choose that as my primary keyword for my article.

Doing this you will never run out of atticle ideas.

You have a good point.  It is important to do good niche and keyword research when writing articles.  I keep files of keywords and long tailed keyword phrases organized by topic.  When ever I get a new idea I use the Google keyword research tool to estimate the number of searches, then do an exact phrase google search.  If there are less than 10,000 pages shown, I then write the article and optimize it for the keyword I have chosen  Jon :)

Hi,
I have just recently started article marketing and although getting started was tough, I now find it rather easy. One thing I've learned from experts in this area is to try to be "conversational" when writing. Write as if you are talking to the person over a cup of coffee.Responses seem to be better this way.

Keep up the good work. I'll be interested in your success stories.

Hi Jon,
You can get some ideas of article marketing from http://bummarketingmethod.com
I have an ebook I can send if you can tell me how to insert it here.

The best thing I did was to get started. You can go to ezinearticles.com and look up my articles...Deborah Marsden.  They aren't brilliant and I have improved since my first one, and I'm getting better all the time.

If I can help further, let me know.
good luck

Submitting articles to different directories is one of the best methods that we can use to promote our site or online business. For submitting articles we need articles and not only that we need good articles. The first thing which comes in our mind is that we are not very good at writing articles. It is also too hard to find a topic to write about.

Problem on writing good article:

Well the main problem with writing article is I do not consider my self to be an expert on any topic. My English is not very good at all. This might be the problem with other peoples also, but as you all can see that I have tried my best to write one article in the similar way you all can try to write. Well it is sure that we can’t break the ice, but we can at least try for that.

The other problem for writing article is the selection of the proper topic on which we can write some thing. We need not to go to a long distance for the answer of this question. We can directly go to our own website, and pick the topic from there only. We can easily choose the products or services which we are providing or the theme of our site or can select any page of our site and can write some thing different but related to the same content which is their in our site. Well I can suggest a few things to the readers that please select the topic area that suits you very well or you are feeling comfortable with. Don’t try to write on a topic on which you are thinking that you are not an expert.

Writing good article:

It is simply quite difficult for the beginners but as and when you will be mature enough then you can easily write good articles. Well after writing some thing on a topic you can consult some one who is good enough for correcting your article, this way you can also know what the mistakes you have made while writing are. Well I can point out one important thing here also, one good article can make a good reputation of your site but one bad article will surely wash away all the reputation of your sites. It really takes a long time to build a good reputation of a particular site, but it clearly takes a few second to destroy all the reputation. So be very very careful before submitting your article to the online world. Let it be checked by the professional's and when they will tell you that it is ok then you can submit to any site who accepts free article. I can mention here three good sites whose reputation is quite high and also they have a large number of visitors. You can easily submit your article to these sites and your site will clearly get lots and lots of traffic due to this article. The sites are:-

1- http://www.ezinearticles.com/

2- http://www.isnare.com/

3- http://www.goarticles.com/

There are many sites other than these which accept free article submission. You need to search them and submit your article over there. So be prepared and write whatever you want.
